Clapham Bespoke Kitchen

The Design

We recently completed this beautiful kitchen for a family in Clapham. Our clients chose bespoke cabinetry from our Rye range painted in a deep green/blue. The Rye range is our take on the traditional English kitchen. The Rye has a traditional shaker doors and a detailed frame called a cockbead. As with the Westminster this range, this range comes as standard with feet but can be changed to skirting if you wish.

We asked our clients why they wanted a bespoke kitchen, they said:

“We embarked on a big renovation project of our terrace home in SW London and whilst I had confidence that I could do other parts of the house ‘of the shelf’ I knew I wanted the perfect family kitchen that would fit with the way we live and entertain. I knew I needed expert advice and suggestions for this part of the project. 

Early on I followed Herringbone Kitchens on Instagram so once we had planning underway and architect drawings finished it was a no brainer to head to Canterbury to visit the studio and start working on our designs with David.”

“We wanted an Island that faced out living area and back garden doors! I definitely challenged David to give me a BIG island that faced out to the living area and our crittal style doors. Since moving to England almost 6 years ago we noticed that the standard is to have the island facing the wall and kitchen table up against the wall. As we were doing a side and rear extension I knew I would push to have this arrangement that allowed someone to face the rest of the room while cooking, prepping or washing up. The island is massive and ticks both elements 1 and 2 of my vision – the worksurface it so useful and I love that it has double sided cupboards, our quooker cube, dishwasher, bins and a wine fridge!”

Making The Kitchen

Just like all our bespoke kitchens, this stunning kitchen was crafted in our Canterbury workshop. Our team takes great pride in everything we create and love the ability to make beautiful pieces specially tailor made for your and your space.

When asked what their favourite of their new kitchen was, our clients said:

“My favourite part is actually the glass door cupboard that sits on worktop on top of drawers. This was something that David suggested to break up the heaviness of so many cupboards. I didn’t realise how much we needed this – I used to have so many beautiful serving pieces hidden away and now I can display them and the bottom shelf is a bar cabinet.”

The Details: Colours, Hardware Etc

We asked our clients what the process of choosing colours and hardware was like for them, this is what they said:

“We actually went in with a pretty firm idea on having Hague Blue as the colour. We then took the advise of David as to what worktops and handles would work with our design ideas and most importantly our budget. I was really happy that Herringbone had trusted supplier brands to recommend for worktops and hardware – it really cut down on the research I needed to do on my own to get the perfect look.”
