The Crouch End Kitchen
The Backstory
We completed this gorgeous and vibrant kitchen for a family in Crouch End! Anna & Daniel purchased the house 3 years ago, it was in solid but ‘dated’ condition. They always knew they wanted to open up the small separate kitchen and dining room into a modern open plan space.
“The kitchen really was the weakest aspect of the house when we bought it, and as a family we wanted something we could spend a lot of time in, and also entertain in.”
Prior to this house the couple had previously done another major renovation; taking the entire building back to a wooden frame and half a back wall. That was a tall thin house whereas for this new project, they had a wider house with less floors and they were keen to make the most of the lateral space.
“I think living in the house for some time gives you a chance to reflect on what you like and don't like about the space, so you end up with a more thoughtfully designed space that's a lot more liveable.”
The Design
This new kitchen was the centre of the family’s renovation, providing a focus for the main room of the house, the kitchen / diner / living area.
“We felt a bespoke kitchen would give us exactly what we needed and be built to last.”
The design of this kitchen includes a main run of cabinetry, a second run of tall units forming a disconnected L shape, as well as an island in the middle. Our lovely clients, Anna & Daniel chose their cabinetry from our Westminster cabinetry range.
The main run features the double Belfast sink, four bottom units and three wall units with reeded glass doors, slightly exposing the oak carcass and shelves inside. The second run, consisting of exclusively tall units, includes a double door larder, two oven doors and cabinetry surrounding the American fridge freezer.
The long kitchen island, houses a gas stove, an overhand around two sides with enough space for 4 guests, the wine cooler, open shelving for displaying cookbooks as well as sets of deep drawers for additional storage.
The Details: Colours, Handles, Worktops & More
For their cabinet colour, Anna & Daniel settles on this gorgeous steel blue colour. This pairs really well with the burnished brass handles chosen, in a more modern and sleek style. The gorgeous mottled worktops, are a polished Silestone quartz in the colour ‘Verona’. The reeded glass also adds another design element that our clients have carried through in other parts of the house.
