The Surrey Home Project

“Having been a fan of Herringbone’s work well before considering a renovation - it felt special having them be such a large part of our journey. As well as the stunning designs, we liked and appreciated their ethos and values and this is something which shone through from start to finish in all dealings with the company. We had an initial design meeting with our architect plans and from there came out with ideas for not just the kitchen as initially planned; but a bar, a media unit, shutters, a pantry and a utility room!”

We had the pleasure of creating the majority of the downstairs joinery for this house project in Surrey. This included the ground floor kitchen, home bar, media unit, shutters, pantry and utility room. This project is a perfect example of how we can unify the interior of your home through full bespoke joinery projects.

“The process felt effortless considering the choices available (having lusted after most of the projects online) and this was down to David’s guidance. We had ideas but he refined them and helped guide us through every intricate detail. The variety of options of how the drawers and cupboards can function to suit all needs is incredible, and David helped guide us to design them to suit our needs.”

The Kitchen

“We knew we wanted a dark colour, thanks to the amount of light in the space but weren’t sure about taking the plunge on all of the cabinetry. David helped us choose Container Green as the feature colour on the island, bar and media unit and then contrasted this with Joiners Box Grey on the rest of the cabinetry - something we would never have thought to do.”

The client was working with a space that is being flooded with natural light and knew they wanted something classic, chic and also comfortable and homey. The colour scheme of Joiners Box Grey from the Herringbone Paints Range on main kitchen run, bench and tower units combined with the Container Green from the same range on the kitchen island is a classic, yet modern, combination and works well for the Westminster Style of cabinetry. incorporating the warmer tones of the herringbone patterned flooring, reeded glass in the cabinetry, the matte fridge freezer and the pendant lights above the kitchen island bring in lovely textures.

The Bora hob looks sleek on the waterfall kitchen island, which is wrapped in a low-silica Quartz worktop, which creates a smooth finish. The bespoke bench window seat creates comfortable additional seating in the kitchen and is fitted in between lit up cupboards that provide additional storage. The bespoke bi-fold shutters fit perfectly into the sides of the cupboards so that they can be open or shut whenever needed.

“Our architect designed some shutters which could fold into the cabinetry - Herringbone took this idea and worked tirelessly on various solutions when at points it felt the design couldn’t come to fruition. We couldn’t be happier with the results and how they function - including a lit up, hidden cupboard when they are open for more storage.”

The Living Room Media Unit & Home Bar

The media unit is stunning. The Container Green colour from the Herringbone Paints Range and the Westminster Style cabinetry are continued from the kitchen into the living room. The exposed dark walnut shelves and background makes the unit stand out even more and brings warmth to the space.

“Another particular ‘brave moment’ David suggested was continuing Container Green onto the walls in the pantry, and adding a black countertop, this is one of our favourite parts of the whole project.”

The home bar is fitted on the other side of the wall leading into the dining space creating a truly lovely entertainment space. Again, the colour is continued and the mirrored backsplash makes it look welcoming and bigger.

The Pantry & Utility Room

The walk-in pantry is hidden away by pocket doors and sit in between the kitchen and the utility and boot room. As an extension of the kitchen the walnut pull-out drawers and wine racks as well as the Container Green colour is carried through into this space. The flooring is still a herringbone pattern but designed to take on a more utilitarian style with rustic terracotta tiles.

On the other side of the walk-in pantry you find the utility room, which also doubles up as a boot room. It is painted in the bright Cathedral Stone colour from the Herringbone Paints range and the flooring is carried through here too. The bench seating and wooden shelf adds extra storage.

The family worked with architect Michael Phillips through out their project, who’s plans Herringbone helped bring to life.

“When it came to the work being carried out, Tom, our main fitter, was a real pleasure to have around and extremely talented, any issues along the way were dealt with efficiently by Joe and the rest of the team.”
